Once you have passed your driving test with us you will naturally want to get on the road and start driving - let's face it that was the whole point of passing your test. However you will almost certainly be aware that new drivers, particularly those under 25 are much more likely to become involved in an accident, and of those accidents the new driver is much more likely to be the 'driver at fault'. Your driving test was simply a test to see that you are safe to drive unsupervised on the public roads and you are likely to have only driven in the town in which you live or your test centre was located. You will no doubt realise the limitations of your experience as a driver, for instance :- You will never have driven on a motorway, you will have very limited experience of dual carriageways, you may have never driven in the dark, you may have never driven in the rain, you will not have needed to look for direction signs, you will have limited experience of country roads. And yet, having passed your 'L' test you are now free to go and deal with these experiences on your own whether you want to or not. There are 6 elements to the course :- Town driving, all weather driving, rural roads, night driving, dual carriageways and finally motorway; these are all covered in practice wherever possible and by theory if a practical session is not possible. For example if you undertake your course during the summer then the night driving element will be covered by a theory session. There is no exam at the end of this course, instead you will be assessed by your instructor as the course progresses and after a minimum of 6 hours tuition you will have covered all of the required elements. You will be encouraged to ask questions and try new techniques such as leaving and joining motorways and service stations, you will almost certainly do a fair amount of overtaking on the faster roads that you will be using and you will gain an understanding of what road direction signs are and how you can use the information they provide. The course can be delivered in a variety of ways, either as a combination of modules spread over several sessions or as one session with a series of rest breaks to discuss progress so far and what is coming next. Pass Plus allows us to introduce many new towns, road types and traffic conditions on a route that we have chosen to provide a variety of motoring conditions. The important thing is that all elements are covered so that your ability and confidence grows. Once you complete your Pass Plus course your instructor will complete an assessment form and post this to the DSA. You will receive back a certificate of completion and this is accepted by many leading insurance companies who offer a generous discount that reflects the lower accident risk you now have. For most young people the only reason they undertake the Pass Plus course is this reduced insurance premium. However once they have completed the course they have a far better understanding of their own limitations and expectations and without fail will come away from it a far better and more importantly, safer driver. You will without doubt enjoy your Pass Plus course.
